Fiction writer Nell Freudenberger, an L.A. native, has written her first novel, which is set in L.A. at her alma mater, the Marlborough School. Her first book of stories, Lucky Girls, was well reviewed but Freudenberger became the subject of vicious publishing-industry gossip because of her youth, good looks, and the reported million-dollar advance she turned down for the deal that included this novel.
